IL TARTUFO NELLA STORIA ED ECONOMIA DELL’ABRUZZO (ITALIA CENTRALE)

Truffles in the history and economy of the Abruzzo Region (Central Italy) Starting from a historical investigation, it is highlighted the importance of truffles in L'Aquila Abruzzo rural economy, which reached its peak in the Renaissance and persisted until the late nineteenth century. For much of the twentieth century, the Abruzzo truffles have mainly supplied Umbrian markets, with an insignificant domestic consumption, and alongside blacks truffles the gathering of white truffles began with the identification of extensive production areas of Tuber magnatum and T. borchii. Today the activities related to the harvesting and marketing of truffles affect over 8,000 truffle hunters, about 2,000 truffle farmers and 44 marketing and processing companies. Annually, by the data provided by the truffle companies, pursuant to Law 311/2004, it has been possible to estimate that in 2014 only the harvest of truffles in the Abruzzo Region has produced a net income of about 34 million euro.

Partendo da un’indagine storica viene evidenziata l’importanza dei tartufi nella economia rurale dell’Abruzzo aquilano che ebbe il suo massimo sviluppo nel Rinascimento permanendo sino alla fine dell’Ottocento. Per gran parte del Novecento i tartufi aquilani e quelli abruzzesi in genere hanno rifornito principalmente i mercati umbri, con un consumo interno insignificante, ed a fianco dei tartufi neri è iniziata la raccolta di quelli bianchi con l’individuazione di grandi aree produttive di Tuber magnatum e T. borchii. Oggi l’attività legata alla raccolta e commercializzazione del tartufo interessa oltre 8.000 raccoglitori, circa 2.000 tartuficultori e 44 aziende di commercializzazione e trasformazione. Dai dati forniti annualmente da queste ultime in base alla L. 311/2004 è stato possibile stimare che nel 2014 la sola attività di raccolta del tartufo nella Regione Abruzzo ha prodotto un reddito netto di circa 34 milioni di euro.
