The neutron field in Hall C of the Gran Sasso Laboratory has been measured, in the energy range above 1 MeV, by a proton recoil scintillation technique. Compared with previously published results, the intensity is in fair agreement, while the energy spectrum is significantly harder. The result is consistent with the hypothesis that (alpha, n) reactions on oxygen nuclei are the main source of neutrons in the rock.

Abstract
The neutron field in Hall C of the Gran Sasso Laboratory has been measured, in the energy range above 1 MeV, by a proton recoil scintillation technique. Compared with previously published results, the intensity is in fair agreement, while the energy spectrum is significantly harder. The result is consistent with the hypothesis that (alpha, n) reactions on oxygen nuclei are the main source of neutrons in the rock.File in questo prodotto:
