Abstract

During the years of “the Italian economic miracle” tall buildings have been chosen to represent the iconic symbol of the impressive economic growth of public industries. In the architectural field this aspect has made possible a project experimentation, able to balance development strategies of new public companies with renewed technical and formal codes for buildings. Contributions given by Bacigalupo and Ratti for ENI in “Metanopoli”, by Morelli and Morbelli for RAI in Turin and by Bega and Gambacciani for SIP in Genoa, all proceed in this direction, exploring the potentiality of steel constructions. Therefore the present study mainly aims to lead an investigation of connections between technological components, morphological and distribution features and formal codes in Italian steel skyscrapers.
