The application of the Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technology to a pacemaker for recharging its battery requires the pacemaker to be equipped with a secondary WPT coil. This coil acts as a receiving loop antenna for external electromagnetic fields. Thus, the induced current and voltage can be a source of EMI for the pacemaker circuitry. Aim of this study is to investigate how to reduce these induced effects by choosing an adequate design of the WPT secondary coil.

Abstract

The application of the Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technology to a pacemaker for recharging its battery requires the pacemaker to be equipped with a secondary WPT coil. This coil acts as a receiving loop antenna for external electromagnetic fields. Thus, the induced current and voltage can be a source of EMI for the pacemaker circuitry. Aim of this study is to investigate how to reduce these induced effects by choosing an adequate design of the WPT secondary coil.
