Artemisia petrosa ssp. eriantha, a Central Apennines’ sub-endemic species, is an aromatic plant used for preparation of herbal medicines, with anti-spasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties, and for the production of a traditional liqueur (genepì). Although protected by an Italian Regional law it is still an endangered species and its survival is threatened by indiscriminate harvest carried out by tourist. In order to protect this species, in vitro propagation methods were developed aimed to obtaining clones for its reintroduction in nature. In the present study AFLP molecular markers were used to assess the genetic diversity in natural populations of A. petrosa; results will be useful for the genetic characterization of in vitro regenerated plants.

Abstract
Artemisia petrosa ssp. eriantha, a Central Apennines’ sub-endemic species, is an aromatic plant used for preparation of herbal medicines, with anti-spasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties, and for the production of a traditional liqueur (genepì). Although protected by an Italian Regional law it is still an endangered species and its survival is threatened by indiscriminate harvest carried out by tourist. In order to protect this species, in vitro propagation methods were developed aimed to obtaining clones for its reintroduction in nature. In the present study AFLP molecular markers were used to assess the genetic diversity in natural populations of A. petrosa; results will be useful for the genetic characterization of in vitro regenerated plants.Pubblicazioni consigliate
