Aim of the paper is the historical-critical analysis and valorization of the castle in Pacentro (AQ – Italy). It is an enclosure-castle with two medieval internal square towers, and walls with circular towers (16th century). The castle can be referred to a territorial system which extends from the beginnings of the Cinquemiglia plateau in the south, to the Gorges of Popoli in the north, the Mount Morrone and the Majella mountain range at east and the Sagittario valley in the west. The castle is characterized by important phenomena of modification and stratification during centuries (second half of the 11th century; second of the 14th century; 15th century; 16th century). Noteworthy are the important restoration works carried out in the 20th century: often they are invasive with demolitions and the realization of reinforced concrete and steel elements. Between 2004 and 2015 interventions to promote tourism development were realized. The research roots on the architectural surveying. The surveying has been realized with integrated methodology, in particular photogrammetric digital modeling of the towers and walls has been done through hexsacopter drone UAV flights. The mesh textured surfaces allow new views and the analysis of architectural and historical characteristics, and in particular of castle’s masonries. It favors the study of the historical phases and of the restorations. 3-D models (point clouds, mesh surfaces, and textured geometries) helps the heritage presentation and enhancement.
