Abstract

The paper suggest the hypothesis that additive manufacturing technologies may enable manufacturing reshoring, that is the relocation at the home country of manufacturing activities earlier off-shored. Since the paper has an explorative nature, a desk research strategy focusing on the “Why” issue, that is the reshoring motivations supported by AM. Collected evidence seems to confirm that additive manufacturing technologies may enable manufacturing decisions in terms of drivers. Therefore, specific attention should be paid to metrological issues (e.g. assessment of product quality) since the newness of the AM technologies and their adoption in an increasing number of industries
