This paper reports the results of work experiences aimed at practical transportation applications of bulk high temperature superconductors. Several levitation tests have been carried out by means of an experimental device employing the same passive YBCO secondary ring interacting with three circular primaries that generate the following magnetic field typologies: (1) translating, (2) static and alternating, and (3) static and uniform. The experimental model device simulates, by analogy, the electromagnetic behavior of a magnetically levitated vehicle riding above a magnetic track with passive superconducting runners on board. Lift and propulsion forces tested in a wide range of work conditions, performance levels, and levitation efficiencies are compared and discussed.
