The article is based on the definition and on a short historical excursus of the term ‘Citizenship’. It is obvious that education for citizenship must focus on the education towards civil rights that recalls the importance of ethics and the responsibility of mankind and society. To this end, we suggest a ‘new’ reading of the Italian Constitution and of its principles. The study ends with a reference to a ‘critica’ education that aims to develop, as much as possible, the freedom of each individual in order to build a shared and democratic layout of life.
