The paper describes a methodology aiming at introducing validation actions during all the steps of the measurement process in a 'big data' scenario, typical of an Industry 4.0 application. The validation involves all the steps, the measurement one, the data retrieving, the data storage and organization, the data processing and, finally, the data presentation. In this way, the variability of results and, consequently, their uncertainty can be reduced. The usefulness of taking in mind metrological concepts, like measurement uncertainty and level of confidence is also discussed. A case study is presented, to better demonstrate the methodology, with reference to a condition monitoring application of an automatic system.

Abstract
The paper describes a methodology aiming at introducing validation actions during all the steps of the measurement process in a 'big data' scenario, typical of an Industry 4.0 application. The validation involves all the steps, the measurement one, the data retrieving, the data storage and organization, the data processing and, finally, the data presentation. In this way, the variability of results and, consequently, their uncertainty can be reduced. The usefulness of taking in mind metrological concepts, like measurement uncertainty and level of confidence is also discussed. A case study is presented, to better demonstrate the methodology, with reference to a condition monitoring application of an automatic system.Pubblicazioni consigliate
