The theme of urban lighting has become increasingly important in the context of the cultural debate on the recovery of historical buildings and on the regeneration of the urban image and its nightime lighting scenarios. There are different aspects to consider, as the interventions must respond to issues concerning safety, energy saving, reduction of pollution and degradation, but above all they must respect the context of intervention and improve its perception. This work aims to illustrate a research methodology proposing strategies for a compatible regeneration of the urban lighting scenarios of the historical centers. This methodology has been applied to a case study, identifying five scenarios with different strategic objectives. The research has contributed to increase the knowledge of historical centers and to provide methods and tools to use them in a sustainable manner.
