An open platform business model enriched by 5G Technology represents the opportunity for Telcos beyond just connectivity when Innovation Technology are built up to serve Municipalities and Citizen needs; the paper shows how it is possible to evolve the network to realise the opportunities offered by the 5G technology in particular when Telcos with Research and Industry partners enable ecosystem development. We explore the most important features of the 5G networks required for the services innovation management, in particular in the context of the MISE Trial in Area 2-Prato and Aquila.
