Starting from the observation that edema, vessel dilatation, and inflammatory cells infiltration are the histopathological characteristics of nasal polyposis, the authors have carried out a study on a group of patients suffering from relapsing polyposis. The efficacy of furosemide for the prevention of relapses of nasal polyposis in a 4 year follow up has been pointed out. This diuretc, given by nasal inhalation, proved to be able to protect the nasal mucosa against provocation with ultrasonic nebulized water and to prevent the recurrence or relapse of nasal polyposis after surgery.

Abstract

Starting from the observation that edema, vessel dilatation, and inflammatory cells infiltration are the histopathological characteristics of nasal polyposis, the authors have carried out a study on a group of patients suffering from relapsing polyposis. The efficacy of furosemide for the prevention of relapses of nasal polyposis in a 4 year follow up has been pointed out. This diuretc, given by nasal inhalation, proved to be able to protect the nasal mucosa against provocation with ultrasonic nebulized water and to prevent the recurrence or relapse of nasal polyposis after surgery.
