The terms 'Cavernous region' and 'parasellar region' indicate the complex anatomical structures placed on the lateral aspect of the pituitary gland. From both anatomical and embriological points of view, at least three different compartments can be distinguished: the cavernous sinus, from vascular origin, the orbit apex, which grows from the orbital region, and the region of the Meckel's cave, coming from pterigo-maxillary area. In the present paper a modern proposal of tridimensional normal neuroradiological 'in vivo' anatomy mostly obtained by MR and spiral CT 3D reconstructive techniques (Shaded Surface Display - SSD) is illustrated.
