In the construction sector, the penetration of the new paradigms of Industry 4.0 and the circular economy is taking place in order to respond to requests for energy efficiency, optimization in the use of resources, automation and monitoring of production activities. In this context, we intend to illustrate an industrial research and experimental development activity that led to the creation of an innovative product called MULTIFId. It consists of an intelligent, economical and low-emission panel, made with waste from the industrial processing of paper and cardboard that intends to contribute to the development of the fundamental enabling technology of "Advanced Materials" for Intelligent Factories. A passive communication system is integrated inside the panel which uses Rfid technology to meet different needs. In particular, the main functions consist in monitoring the position of workers in order to guarantee safety in the risk areas, the thermal improvement of the building envelope in which the panel will be installed and the monitoring of the humidity conditions of the panel itself. MULTIFId is also able to respond to the Sustainable Development Goal 12, as it stimulates the adoption of sustainable production and consumption models.
