Terre-in-Moto tra bello e sublime. Lettura ruskiniana del paesaggio e dei borghi dell’abruzzo montano prima e dopo il sisma del 1915

January 13, 1915. An fearfull earthquake with its epicenter in the Fucino basin invests Marsica, the area of Abruzzo around the ancient dried-up lake, and its surroundings, with devastating effects on numerous inhabited areas: several of them will be delocalized and rebuilt ex novo, abandoning the original villages that today (2019), in state of ruin for more than a hundred years, are one of the components of the landscape of this area. Examples of the «extreme sublimity of architecture» when cracks, fractures, stains and vegetation assimilate it to the work of nature, described by John Ruskin in The seven lamps of architecture (1849), they will be analysed through the eyes of the travellers who have visited and depicted them in the past centuries and those of Ruskin himself, to understand their role for the landscape context of this territory, in the past and present, and if are appropriate radical reconstruction interventions or adequate conservation and enhancement strategies.
