Il fenomeno migratorio in Italia e la vocazione interculturale del Mediterraneo

International migration represents a phenomenon which, due to its pervasiveness, concerns substantially all spheres of collective life: political, social, economic and cultural. In Europe, the migratory phenomenon has gradually acquired a stabilizing configuration of the presence of migrants. Despite the economic and financial crisis that has become evident since 2008, without obviously considering the consequences of the current global health crisis attributable to COVID-19, Italy still represents a stable place of residence for many foreigners, even if our country , today it finds itself to be, at the same time, the place of departure, arrival and transit of migrants. In this context, it is useful to reflect on how the area of the Mediterranean, still little studied, can be configured as a reality in its own right, both in relation to its critical issues and with respect to its virtuous potential.

Le migrazioni internazionali rappresentano un fenomeno che, per la sua pervasività, riguarda sostanzialmente tutte le sfere della vita collettiva: politica, sociale, economica e culturale. Nei paesi europei, il fenomeno migratorio ha progressivamente acquisito una configurazione di stabilizzazione delle presenze dei migranti. Nonostante la crisi economico-finanziaria resasi evidente a partire dal 2008, senza poter ancora valutare – ovviamente – le conseguenze dell’attuale crisi sanitaria mondiale riconducibile al COVID-19, l’Italia rappresenta ancora un luogo di residenza stabile per numerosi stranieri, anche se il nostro Paese oggi si trova a essere, nello stesso tempo, luogo di partenza, di arrivo e di transito dei migranti. In questo contesto, è utile riflettere su come l’area del Mediterraneo, ancora poco studiata, possa configurarsi come una realtà a sé stante, tanto in relazione alle sue criticità quanto rispetto alle sue potenzialità virtuose.
