This paper analyzes the second generation modern strategies used since the earthquake that struck central Italy in the late Nineties. These strategies, together with the traditional and modern first generation ones, represent the three main strategies for the consolidation and restoration of masonry buildings. Second generation modern strategies are inspired by the local seismic culture but use innovative materials as long as they are compatible, reinterpreting ancient knowledge in a contemporary key. They were used for the main structural components, as slabs, roofs, arches, ring beams, vertical masonries.
