Abstract

Permanent magnet synchronous motors offers many cardinal features like high power density, low inertia, high efficiency, less maintenance and reliability. But, it is also vulnerable to the variations in the motor parameters and the external disturbance, which may deteriorate the steady-state performance. This study proposes higher order sliding mode controller for drives fed with 9-level inverter., Selected controller maintains the advantages of first order sliding mode control but removes the chattering phenomenon, multilevel inverter further improves drive performance. Simulation and experimental studies show the efficacy of the proposed PMSM drive.
