Abstract The power of producing objects by means of representation alone is assigned by Kant to God’s intuitive intellect (the visio Dei) and is denied to man, who must stick to a manifold “given”, to a merely sensitive intuition. A divine intellect could not even conceive, according to Kant, the “modes” of contingency and necessity, which are the modes through which a human intellect relates to experience. A reappraisal of intellectual intuition implies that intuition is no longer understood as a species of the representation genre, but is thought of as a pure and non-empirical feeling, always “in act”, different by nature from representation. The videre videor of Descartes’ Second Meditation thus functions as an intellectual intuition, without the possible-real disjunction in the least affecting it.
