In this paper a proof is offered that if a variable Y does not cause a variable Y in the bivariate system (Y , Y ) and Y 3 1 1 3 3 causes a variable Y in higher-order system (Y , Y , Y ), then the omitted variable Y must cause the variable Y in the 1 12 3 2 1 bivariate system (Y , Y ) and in the trivariate system (Y , Y , Y ).
