Periodontitis is a prevalent inflammatory disease that can result in tooth loss if left untreated. Clinical evaluation and x-rays are currently used to diagnose and monitor the progression of the disease, but intraoral photos can provide additional information. We propose an automatic framework for patients' self-monitoring using a smartphone camera to calculate periodontal metrics such as teeth and gums length ratios. We tested the framework on a small sample size to evaluate its robustness and efficiency. Results are presented and discussed.

Abstract
Periodontitis is a prevalent inflammatory disease that can result in tooth loss if left untreated. Clinical evaluation and x-rays are currently used to diagnose and monitor the progression of the disease, but intraoral photos can provide additional information. We propose an automatic framework for patients' self-monitoring using a smartphone camera to calculate periodontal metrics such as teeth and gums length ratios. We tested the framework on a small sample size to evaluate its robustness and efficiency. Results are presented and discussed.File in questo prodotto:
