The article investigates The Last of the Mohicans in tha frame of other Indian novels by Cooper himself and by other writers between the end of the Eighteenth century and the 1820s. Special attention is devoted to Cooper, Child, Sedgwick. The article focusses on how each author and/or text performs the possibility, or impossibility, of inter-cultural encounter by dealing with inter-marriage. A comparation is done with Michael Mann’s 1992 film
