In order to study memory as a space where the real and the imaginary come together and take shape, this article focuses on Agustín de Hipona and Rafael Alberti who, although published their works many centuries apart, share the same position in front of the panorama of remembrances that emerges from their literary works. Therefore, starting from the 10th book of the Confessions, the work proposes an Augustinian reading of the Albertian poetry to highlight how, the remembrance process permeating the creations of both authors acts as a transversal psychic device. This one, in the autobiographical universe of the Saint, is linked mainly to divine action. In the poetry of Alberti, instead, the function of memory leads to a desire to fulfil itself whose tension is destined not to be resolved.
