Founded and directed by Luigi Credaro (1860–1939), the „Rivista Pedagogica“ (1908–1939) was the leading Italian pedagogical journal in Italy of the early 20th century. It critically developed Herbart’s pedagogical model, combining the empirical and experimental approach of positivism with Kantian perspectives on the transcendental foundation of experience and the Primacy of Practical Reason. It proposed an idea of the school system and concrete measures for the social and civil modernization project and for the liberal-democratic national education of which he was a spokesman.
