The goal of the proposed work is to detect an object target embedded inside a multi-layered dispersive material by using UWB excitation and filtering technique. First the electromagnetic field problem is considered. The stratified region excited by an UWB signal is analyzed by an electromagnetic field solver based on the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. Then the signal reflected by the target object at a monitor point is filtered by using the discrete wavelet technique (DWT). This technique permits to discriminate the field backscattered by the target from the field reflected by the multilayered structure. Application results obtained in a two-dimensional domain highlight the good performances of the proposed detection technique.
