A large volume XeCl laser has been equipped with a confocla positive branch unstable resonator (CPBUR), obtaining a near diffraction-limited beam, with a brightness of > 1014 W/(cm2sr). Focusing the radiation, an intensity of about 1012 W/cm2 is reached on a copper target, generating an x-ray emitting plasma in the region of 100eV, with pulse length up to 100 ns.
