wires with round grooved rolls. Actually, this process requires an accurate set up of process parameters in order to obtain the desired dimensional and geometrical characteristics of finished. Although the similarity with rolling process, roll drawing wires are subjected to a radically different stress state; therefore, the models proposed for deformation forecasts in rod rolling are not applicable in this process. The influence of main process parameters (incoming wire dimensions, width to height ratio of incoming flat wire, roll radius, roll groove dimension and friction conditions) is of crucial importance to control the final wire geometry and respect the dimensional tolerances. Numerical models and optimization techniques were employed concurrently to draw the principal guidelines of a correct design of flat-round roll drawing process. In order to evaluate the goodness of final product, a circularity factor was introduced and compared with roll groove filling behavior.

Abstract

wires with round grooved rolls.
