This paper illustrates the UAQ4 superconducting magnetically levitated train project, which is the outcome of over 40 years of Italian research in the field of non-conventional high-speed transportation systems. The technological feasibility of the system has been laboratory tested at the University of L'Aquila (Italy). System innovations, technologies and performance are discussed, together with the project development outline.
