This paper illustrates a procedure to design a interior permanent magnet motor, suitable for achieving a given flux-weakening characteristic, which is considered as a design requirement. The proposed procedure combines a preliminary analytical evaluation of motor size together with a fine Finite Element Method analysis. This fine evaluation is carried out in order not only to test the motor performance in the whole flux-weakening speed range but also to refine the design. At last, an example of a motor design is reported.

Abstract
This paper illustrates a procedure to design a interior permanent magnet motor, suitable for achieving a given flux-weakening characteristic, which is considered as a design requirement. The proposed procedure combines a preliminary analytical evaluation of motor size together with a fine Finite Element Method analysis. This fine evaluation is carried out in order not only to test the motor performance in the whole flux-weakening speed range but also to refine the design. At last, an example of a motor design is reported.File in questo prodotto:
