MV distribution networks are typically structurally meshed but radially operated. In order to increase the continuity level of power supply in these cases, it is of fundamental importance to reconfigure the network automatically, eliminating the faulted line-segment as quickly as possible. Therefore, it is particularly important to draw up a selectivity plan which should be accurate and valid for the majority of faults that may occur in electrical distribution systems. From this point of view indeed, the use of logic selectivity and the adoption of new-generation digital protections may substantially increase the supply continuity level of these currently widely used systems. The paper presents a particularly fast, robust method based on logic selectivity, which can be advantageously used also in the new smart grids. Abstract

Moreover, the operation zones and setting of the proposed digital protection system are reported and explained.
