We extend a recent study on the relationship between the alpha-particle abundance and the solar wind velocity at different heliographic latitudes. Our results confirm that in the region at the mid-latitude boundary of the fast polar wind there is no evidence of correlation between these two quantities, in contrast to what is found in the near-equatorial solar wind. This may depend upon a different relevance, in different regions, of the processes at the origin of low-velocity flows.

Abstract

We extend a recent study on the relationship between the alpha-particle abundance and the solar wind velocity at different heliographic latitudes. Our results confirm that in the region at the mid-latitude boundary of the fast polar wind there is no evidence of correlation between these two quantities, in contrast to what is found in the near-equatorial solar wind. This may depend upon a different relevance, in different regions, of the processes at the origin of low-velocity flows.
