Abstract

A transputer based DC drive is presented. The system appears to be very powerful and flexible because of its high throughput, which can be easily increased by virtue of transputer multiprocessing capabilities, and its communication capabilities. The system has been used to implement both a traditional PID (proportional-integral-derivative) controller and a MRAC (model reference adaptive control) algorithm; furthermore, with few modifications the controller can be used to control other systems. Comparisons of experimental results obtained by using both the PID and the MRAC algorithms are presented, and distributed system capabilities of the system are discussed
