A guideline for the design of PM Linear Synchronous Motors is proposed. It allows to find the main motor dimensions for a given thrust and linear speed. In order to verify the accuracy of the proposed design procedure, an accurate 2-D Finite Element model of the LSM has been carried out. An example has been presented and the results have been compared with the FEA ones: the comparison points out a good concordance and confirm the goodness of the approach.
