The numerical solution of the unsteady, 3D Navier-Stokes equations for an incompressible fluid has been used to investigate the flow past a marine structure. The model adopted, written by using the primitive variables in the conservative form, has been integrated with a suitable, M.A.C. like finite difference method. The purpose of this paper is to extend the computation already carried out for the 2D case to the 3D case. This extension is crucial in order to evaluate the velocity field and the vertical drift forces acting on an offshore platform. The method seems to be a useful tool for carrying out a more profound investigation on a flow field around a system of several coupled cylinders.

Abstract
The numerical solution of the unsteady, 3D Navier-Stokes equations for an incompressible fluid has been used to investigate the flow past a marine structure. The model adopted, written by using the primitive variables in the conservative form, has been integrated with a suitable, M.A.C. like finite difference method. The purpose of this paper is to extend the computation already carried out for the 2D case to the 3D case. This extension is crucial in order to evaluate the velocity field and the vertical drift forces acting on an offshore platform. The method seems to be a useful tool for carrying out a more profound investigation on a flow field around a system of several coupled cylinders.Pubblicazioni consigliate
