Several options are available to recognize the specificity of cultural products and the concept of cultural diversity in the international trading system. 8 To this purpose, the current DDA negotiations at theWTO offer an opportunity that should not be missed. At the same time, the UNESCO convention could be useful for reinforcing the importance of cultural rights in international law, as well as to stress that openness to foreign products is an essential ingredient of cultural diversity. Coherence in the international governance of cultural activities should be increased through a progressive reciprocal adaptation of different rules and institutions.
