This paper presents numerical computations of tsunamis generated by landslides falling along the flank of a conical island. The model used is the fully threedimensional commercial code FLOW-3D, based on the VOF technique for the treatment of the free surface. The model results are compared against available experimental data that allow validation of the model, evaluation of its accuracy, and estimation of the computational costs. The main conclusion of this research is that the model is applicable at reasonable costs for a few accurate simulations that may be used for preparing precomputed inundation maps of coasts prone to the risk of tsunamis inundation.

Abstract
This paper presents numerical computations of tsunamis generated by landslides falling along the flank of a conical island. The model used is the fully threedimensional commercial code FLOW-3D, based on the VOF technique for the treatment of the free surface. The model results are compared against available experimental data that allow validation of the model, evaluation of its accuracy, and estimation of the computational costs. The main conclusion of this research is that the model is applicable at reasonable costs for a few accurate simulations that may be used for preparing precomputed inundation maps of coasts prone to the risk of tsunamis inundation.Pubblicazioni consigliate
