In the growing demand for environmental sustainability of buildings interventions, motivated by the depletion of non-renewable resources and by the occupation of the land, the reuse of materials resulting from demolition selective is a priority, presenting a particular relevance in the case of materials, such as steel, which require environmental and economic significative resources not only far the production ex-novo, but also far the recycling. It is proposed the definition of a methodological and operative procedure of reuse of a steel component, based on the current European legislation, depending on the degradation level and the residual performance, on the nominal life of the building in which there is the reuse and on the environmental conditions, in order to optimize the durability. We describe the comparison mode to evaluate the residual performance, the possible treatments that are possible to be made on site or in factory, emphasizing the important relationship between the preparedness treatments and the prevention treatments, the evaluation of the effectiveness of treatments and the construction methods for preventing the corrosion.

Abstract
