This chapter focuses on various high-capacity direct-detection (DD) systems, which include conventional intensity-modulation and direct-detection (IM-DD) systems that have been widely deployed and new DD systems that are under research. The chapter reviews some of the most relevant categories of new DD systems, which include various types of self-coherent systems, novel Stokes receivers, and the recently proposed Kramers-Kronig receiver. It ends with the authors’ view on the future of short-reach systems.

Abstract
This chapter focuses on various high-capacity direct-detection (DD) systems, which include conventional intensity-modulation and direct-detection (IM-DD) systems that have been widely deployed and new DD systems that are under research. The chapter reviews some of the most relevant categories of new DD systems, which include various types of self-coherent systems, novel Stokes receivers, and the recently proposed Kramers-Kronig receiver. It ends with the authors’ view on the future of short-reach systems.File in questo prodotto:
