Currently, entire areas of the central Apennines are in an emergency or post-emergency situation. Deep and perhaps lethal wounds lacerate villages and landscapes between Abruzzo, Lazio, Umbria and Marche following various catastrophic events. How can these mountainous regions draw their future? What should they focus on? This article aims to demonstrate that for the planning of socio-economic development of these areas it is usefull to start from people’s dreams. Dreams related to one’s own life places, opportunely collected and analyzed, allow to design self-centered development and reconstruction scenarios. This is what emerges from the analysis of 1680 dreams collected during a field work in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, realized through 428 hermeneutic interviews.
