In a context of environmental emergencies related to weather phenomena, to instability of territory and to seismic events, the definition of operational scenarios, pre and post-event, becomes useful to protect those «environmental pre-existences» represented by the heritage of Italian historical centers, through processes of physical reconstruction, consistent with conservation principles, and regeneration of socio-economic and cultural fabric able to redefining living conditions, prefiguring the urban palimpsest as a place of material and immaterial stratification of the past as well as contemporary. The text aims to explore possible implications, both disciplinary and methodological, to compare and integrate with conservation and regeneration, in order to outline coherent, multifactor and multicriteria, analytical approaches, and adaptive processes declining them compared to the singularities and specificities of the historical centers.
