Abstract

The essay describes the works of Table 5 members in the “Mediterranean Urban Design & Regeneration Event”, held in Expo Dubai 2020. Collaborative metadesign strategies were developed and the vision of flexible, changeable and sustainable shading volumes was proposed to enhance the regeneration and refurbishment of Dubai’s urban voids. The design proposal, particularly focusing on the case study of the World Trade Center, represented an attempt to better understand the peculiar features of this metropolis, its needs and history and to conceive smart “pauses” in this growing building texture, with respect to the preservation of the memory and the extension of the architectural identity.
