Contemporary society faces many challenges that call on the construction sector to develop innovative solutions that meet the requirements of the three dimensions of sustainable development: environment, economy and society. In this sense, the technological systems used in construction and, in particular, the materials from wich they are made, play a fundamental role. Studies show that the impacts associated with the processes of extraction, transformation and transport of traditional materials are highly impactful, so there is a need to reverse the trend and move from a linear to a circular approach, as well as the need to use innovative and environmentally friendly materials. The purpose of this article is to illustrate ongoing research into the use of cardboard to make panels for the construction industry. This research is rooted in the encouraging results of a previous study and intends to implement it with further technical, performance and application insights. Once the technological development of the system is realised, it will be tested in a real context represented by a disused building of industrial archaeological heritage.
