We present a convergence criterion for the activity expansion of the Asakura-Oosawa model of penetrable hard-spheres, a popular toy model in colloid theory. The model consists of a binary mixture of large and small spheres where small spheres may freely overlap with each other but the interaction is hard-core otherwise. Our convergence criterion is formulated in terms of an effective activity for large objects that takes into account excluded volume effects.

Abstract

We present a convergence criterion for the activity expansion of the Asakura-Oosawa model of penetrable hard-spheres, a popular toy model in colloid theory. The model consists of a binary mixture of large and small spheres where small spheres may freely overlap with each other but the interaction is hard-core otherwise. Our convergence criterion is formulated in terms of an effective activity for large objects that takes into account excluded volume effects.
