Leggere, applicare o progettare trial pragmatici ed esplicativi: breve guida per gli infermieri

In the current literature, a rich debate on Exploratory and Pragmatic Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) is documented. These trials are also called "efficacy trials" and "effectiveness trials" and their aim is to inform, respectively, on the ideal (theoretical) intervention's effectiveness and on the actual (in "usual condition") intervention's effectiveness. The explanatory and pragmatic trials differ in their structure, design and management: these differences are also important for clinicians since they affect the results' generalizability. The concepts of "explanatory" and "pragmatic" are relatively recent among nursing discipline. It is therefore important that clinical and researchers nurses reflect on the pragmatic or explanatory nature when they read, design or cooperate in randomized control trial(s). An assessment guideline is provided in this article from the PRECIS tool, an instrument developed to assess the nature of the trial through ten different evaluation domains.
