A number of Latin inflectional and derivational processes have been analyzed as based on the third stem of verbs, i.e., a stem which appears also in the perfect and future participle and the supine. In this article, such analyses are reviewed and compared with an alternative one. The developments in Italian of the Latin derivational processes based on the third stem are described. It is shown that a participial stem in Italian has a less strong morphomic status than in Latin.

Abstract
A number of Latin inflectional and derivational processes have been analyzed as based on the third stem of verbs, i.e., a stem which appears also in the perfect and future participle and the supine. In this article, such analyses are reviewed and compared with an alternative one. The developments in Italian of the Latin derivational processes based on the third stem are described. It is shown that a participial stem in Italian has a less strong morphomic status than in Latin.File in questo prodotto:
