The microvasculature of ovarian follicles plays important roles in folliculogenesis. A sparse capillary wreath appears in primary follicles and develops into a single-layered basket-like wreath the vessels of which are sinusoidal and slightly flattened in rats and into three-layered vascular networks in rabbits, pigs and cows in Graafian follicles. The microvasculature changes with follicular development and atresia. Active angiogenesis occurs in developing follicles, while regressive vascular networks are observed in follicular atresia. Follicular angiogenesis is regulated by ovarian growth factors, which themselves are regulated by factors produced and secreted out of the ovary such as gonadotropins and thyroid hormones.

Abstract
The microvasculature of ovarian follicles plays important roles in folliculogenesis. A sparse capillary wreath appears in primary follicles and develops into a single-layered basket-like wreath the vessels of which are sinusoidal and slightly flattened in rats and into three-layered vascular networks in rabbits, pigs and cows in Graafian follicles. The microvasculature changes with follicular development and atresia. Active angiogenesis occurs in developing follicles, while regressive vascular networks are observed in follicular atresia. Follicular angiogenesis is regulated by ovarian growth factors, which themselves are regulated by factors produced and secreted out of the ovary such as gonadotropins and thyroid hormones.Pubblicazioni consigliate
